Closure of VicRoads Library |
Thursday, 14 November 2013 |
As you may know, the VicRoads Library collection is presently being reviewed and dispersed, in line with moves to consolidate holdings across the Victorian Government Library Service. Most of the holding of Victorian Government material, including VicRoads publications, will become part of the warehoused VGLS collection. For a short time, you can still request material via Eddie Schubert as he is still based at VicRoads (please use his direct email address

). Once there are no longer staff based within VicRoads, you will need to:
Look for holdings on the VGLS catalogue, where you can limit to items from the VicRoads collection or the DTPLI collection. Should you see the item there you then send a request to VGLS document delivery via email (

) or phone (1800 742 733 and press option 2). VGLS is also part of LADD if you wish to make the request through there. Interlibrary loan charges will apply.
Eddie will be fnishing up with VGLS in coming months, and on behalf of the network I thank him for his strong contribution to national transport information sharing and cooperation over many years. Teresa Devetak will remain within VGLS in a reference role across the service.

Closure of Victorian Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure Library |
Tuesday, 23 July 2013 |
The Victorian Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure Library (formerly Department of Transport Library) is to close. The following notice was issued this week:
Changes to Transport
library services
On 2 August 2013, the library collection currently at Level 5, 121 Exhibition
St will close.
This closure is to
review the hardcopy collection and enable a longer term emphasis on digitising
suitable content for online access and protecting specialised or historically
valuable items in the collection. The project is being managed by the Victorian
Government Library Service (VGLS) Shared Service Provider (SSP) at the
Department of Treasury and Finance in consultation with the department.
From 5 August,
external users of the collection will not be able to use the collection for
research or reference. The library team will not be able to provide
interlibrary loans to other libraries.
The VGLS library
catalogue has a public access view and as material is digitised will become a
richer repository for Victorian Government transport related material.
